Customer Reviews

This new Viewpad 7x from Viewsonic is a major step backwards from its predecessor -- the Viewpad 7.
The original Viewpad 7 was unique in that it had built-in unlocked 3G.
This meant that you could simply open the slot at the top and insert any provider's SIM card and connect to their network.
This was tremendous for frequent travelers. For example, I go to Russia frequently. It is a joy to be able to remove my US SIM card upon arrival in Moscow, and put in a Russian SIM Card and have full connectivity.
Certainly the new Viewpad 7x has a newer version of Anddroid and looks a little more snappy than the old one (the old one looks just like an iPhone on steroids)--but the loss of functionality does not compensate. However klugey looking, the previous version was a fully usable phone as well as a tablet.
So-thumbs down on Viewsonic for caving in and not continuing to provide unlocked 3G capability in its new product.

I wanted this particular tablet for the memory card expansion and Honeycomb. Honeycomb---well, I wasn't missing anything, it is much less user friendly than Gingerbread. The tablet specs say it supports a 32gb memory card, and yes, you can actually put one in it, but since it won't let you access anything ON the card that's kind of a moot point (and $30 I wouldn't have spent). The only way to get anything on the card is to transfer from your computer, but there's no way to access it anyway. I copied some non-DRM'd epubs from my computer to the memory card...while I can use the File Manager to SEE the books on the card, it won't allow you to open them. I have two apps on here that can read epubs...Nook, and Aldiko Premium. Trying to open a book just gives a message there is no application that can read that kind of file. The apps themselves have no way to access the memory card.
Everything you download goes on the internal memory...a piddling 8GB that will be full in no time. Apps cannot be moved to the memory card to save space. Very disappointed in this device.
